The Butterfly Band is led by Kofi Ackah, the son of the legendary Ghanaian musician Jewel Ackah, who was known as the King of Highlife. Following in his father’s footsteps, master percussionist Kofi Ackah has been a fixture in the African music scene in Canada for many years, having performed with various groups, and is a JUNO award winner for his work with the African Guitar Summit and as a member of Okavango African Orchestra. The Butterfly Band features an all-star lineup of musicians that share a love of Ghanaian highlife music.

African Dance Ensemble (ADE) is a performance group made up of people of many nationalities from around the world. ADE (pronounced “Ah-day”) is a Ga-Dangbe word signifying “telling,” “as told,” or “as said.” The experience of interaction between performers and the world is what tells (“ade”) our story.

The purpose of ADE is the preservation of African music and dance, cultural understanding between peoples of different backgrounds, and sharing the “joy of Mama Africa” with the world.
