The African Arts Institute (AAI) is proud to announce the next webinar of its series, Sankofa Journeys Speaker Series, dedicated to showcasing African artists, scholars, and cultural practitioners shaping African arts today. Every session, we highlight creative voices whose work preserves, reimagines, and celebrates African identity across disciplines.
The webinar will be taking place on Sunday, May 3, at 6:00 PM ET on Zoom and will feature Nii Koney.
Speaker Bio
NII TAWIAH OKURAJAH KONEY is a distinguished Oral Historian, Publisher of Nile Valley Magazine, Public Speaker, and community Advocate. He serves as Director of the Nile Valley Foundation Learning Centre and Founder of the Afrika Diaspora History Library at the Edmonton Archives. Additionally, Nii is an instructor at the My Brother’s Keeper Project. With over a decade of experience, he has been a speaker and contributor with Historica Canada and the Canada School of Public Service. Nii has also held key roles, including former Board member of the Black Canadian Studies Association and Vice President of the Ghana Union of Canada. As a father and grandfather, Nii’s philosophy is that one’s legacy is built upon the things they help create, not the things they help destroy.
