ONGOING: Drop-In Drumming Classes every Friday

A weekly drop-in drumming class for all ages and skill levels. Advanced drummers will hone their skills and learn new repertoire. Beginners will be introduced to basic technique and have the opportunity to practice and develop in a welcoming group setting. We play both with hands and with sticks on drums such as Kpanlogo, Djembe, and Gome, starting with rhythms from Ghana and Mande traditions in the West African subregion. Learn technique, several parts to songs, the history of the drums, how they are made, and the cultural significance of the music. Led by Isaac Akrong (www.isaacniiakrong.com).

Note about accessibility:

The Quinte Arts Council is currently in process of upgrading their space. At this time, there are stairs leading up to the front entrance, and the washroom is not wheelchair-accessible. Renovations are planned in the coming year.
